Postcards for the Weekend: Handicraft / Artwork

Nursery

Postcrossing card from Russia (January 2018)
Artist: Victoria Kirdyi

In Captivity

From John in England, April 2018
In Captivity [Unicorns]
Artist: Vaclav Vaca

As art/illustration cards are on my wishlist at Postcrossing, I receive quite a few of that kind; and I often manage to sneak them in under all kinds of Postcards for the Weekend themes… Winking smile  I’m choosing these two now simply because they are both from this year’s harvest of cards, but as far as I can remember, I haven’t already shown them.

I really like them both. But gosh, I ADORE the first one from Russia!!! It has to be my favorite of all the cards you have shown this year.

I wonder if there ever was a species similar to unicorns?

I don't think you have shown these before, either. The unicorn has a Rennaissance look about it, but I suspect it is actually a relatively modern picture playing with the elements of style of that period.

I'm very sure you haven't shown both cards from before and I'm very grateful you finally did! Thank you very much. These are soooo pretty!!!!

I also like illustration cards. Unicorns seem very fashionable lately: I see them everywhere! This representation of one of them seems very good to me.I'd like to see it in person.

Ginny, you say that every time :D But yes, I love it too!

I think people have been asking that since very ancient times, Sandi - but hard to tell from the earliest sources what kind of animal was really referred to. :)

Meike, the artist Vaclav Vaca was born 1948 in Chzechoslovakia but later moved to Canada. He's referred to as a surrealist artist.

The unicorn image is indeed intriguing - so many possible symbols all in one...

Glad you liked them, Maria :)

Good luck with that, Eva... (Next train to Hogwarts?)

Actually, I meant to see the painting, not the unicorn... ;-)

;-) Eva, alas there is no info on the card of where the original is kept - or how big it is. You can find more works by the artist online by googling his name, though - including more unicorns!

I liked the fun and whimsy particularly of the first card.
