The Christmas Tree in the main square has been put in place. It's huge - perhaps to make up for some other places in town getting less decorations this year, due to municipal cutdowns (according to the local newspaper).
I was glad to see the usual decorations put up on the bridges to/from the town park, though.
The river was still like a mirror.

It always seems so early to me when the Christmas decorations start to appear.
ReplyDeleteWe have had Christmas foods in our supermarkets for well over a month already!
JayCee, in the shops here, Christmas tends to start right after Halloween. As we (including myself) do tend to want to start putting up certain decorations from 1st Advent/1st Dec onward, I find that ok. But I do react when I see them even before Halloween! ;-)
Deletethe tree i beautiful and I like those bridges too. Maybe you can get shots for us when the lights are all lit up. the mirror shot is beautiful and so is the edit. looks entirely different. Seems the entire world is cutting back. Everything we buy is so high in price it is hard to justify spending money on other things than food and shelter.
ReplyDeleteSandra, it remains to be seen whether I'll be out in the dark to take photos of Christmas lights. (Probably depends a great deal on the weather...)
DeleteNovember does seem early to start putting up Christmas decorations. I haven't checked to see if we have any in town, but there are festive lights all year to celebrate various religious festivals. I have been to a popular English food store , (inappropriately called Iceland) where Christmas decorations and goodies are piled high on the shelves. I bought a pack of traditional mince pies, which proved rather too tempting and have all gone!
ReplyDeleteCarol, our town's Christmas lights will be officially turned on this upcoming Saturday (25 Nov), i.e. the weekend before 1st Advent. And that's a tradition going back at least a decade or two, I think. (Perhaps even longer.)
DeleteThe last photo is a beautiful edit. And I really like the bridge decorations. It would be a good place for people to take photos for their Christmas cards. Will there be a market this year?
ReplyDeleteGinny, there are smaller Christmas markets arranged by various organisations spread out over December in different places. There may also be a few stalls along the main square; but no big market like the Autumn and Spring markets.
DeleteCan't wait to see the big tree decorated!
ReplyDeleteBarbra, it's usually just decorated with (white) lights.
DeleteThe "upside down" picture is great, Monica!
ReplyDeleteHere, everything is ready for the Christmas Market to start this Thursday. We were in town for coffee and cake yesterday and walked across the market square where all the stalls and booths are set up, but still closed, as well as the huge angels guarding the square with their outstretched wings in all four corners.
As every year, I am really looking forward to it all, and this year, it seems easier and brighter than last year when we'd just had two funerals within five weeks and were still coming to terms with it all.
Meike, I can totally understand why this time of year did not feel as festive for you last year. We don't have that kind of big Christmas market here but smaller events more spread out. Probably depends a great deal on the weather if I'll be attending anything special.
