Winter Starts Here

Today I woke up to the first snow for this season. Just very small powdery snow flakes in the air today, but still marking the beginning of winter.

And yesterday, I noted that the Christmas Tree in the main square downtown is up:

More snow to be expected, but the latest forecasts say that tomorrow, most of it will probably fall north of here; and the day after, on the east coast, moving north. (Far up  north, I think many places have already had snow for a while now.)

Anyway, 1st Advent Sunday is only 1½ week away now. Frosty/snowy weather might inspire me to make my usual change of kitchen curtains already this upcoming weekend... (I always like to start with that, before putting up other decorations.)

First day of winter for sure. It's to snow here later this week. My favorite photo is the big bare tree with the hazy sun!

It does mark the season, doesn't it, the first snow! Not here yet, although it had been forecast for today or tomorrow. Looking at my weather app now, there isn't a single flake in sight. Instead, it has been raining for two days straight, with strong winds.
I am looking forward to your Advent decorations!

Ginny, a few snowflakes in the air here today as well, but so far still only a few.

Ro, compared to (I suppose) summer at your end of the world, no doubt!

Meike, so far here today is much like yesterday, just a few snow flakes, only a bit of white here and there on the ground, and no wind to speak of. Laundry afternoon for me though and as I probably won't be done until dark sets in, I'll probably be staying in!

good idea to put up the winter curtains, they are so bright and cheery. just enough snow to be beautiful and not dangerous. I fought my little tree for 3 days trying to put lights on a 17 inches tree. yesterday I got mad and shoved the last of them in a ball and left it. today each time I walk by, tweak the lights. my head is not the same these days and I might just put it back and not have a tree

It comes as quite a surprise to see snow in your photos, and yet I know it falls every winter in Sweden!
Quite a contrast to here, where many are still in shorts and T-shirts and I don't need a coat for the afternoon dog walk! Tonight it's forecast to be around 14ÂșC, which sounds very chilly after our exceptionally hot summer.

Sandra, my outdoors balcony tree has given up (built-in lights not working any more) and I don't think I'll be buying a new one. Always a hassle getting outdoor lights set up anyway as there is no electricity outlet outside, I have to lead (and fasten) the cord half way around the balcony and then in through a window... My tiny Christmas tree indoors never gets put up until a week or so before Christmas, but that I think I can still handle (lights or no lights!).

Carol, well, it does sound like at least some warmer items of clothing than just shorts and T-shirts may be needed now even where you are! ;-) The temperature here is hovering around freezing point, which is quite normal for the time of year.
