Photos from a walk through the Town Park and along the river last Saturday (Midsummer Day and a national holiday here). I don’t think I’ve ever seen the water lilies in bloom so early in summer before. But then the weather throughout May and most of June really has been extraordinarily warm and sunny this year (breaking all kinds of weather records).

  1. Of course now I have the song "A Walk in the Park" in my head, where it will probably stay all day :-D
I love water lilies, and I am sure you know that in German they are called Seerosen ("lake roses").

    1. I didn't know (or remember) that song Meike, so made a detour to YouTube... Ok, now it will probably be in my head for the day as well! ;) I also did not know "Seerosen". I'm sure I'd still have understood it in context - but not if asked out of the blue to translate it into German. In Swedish it's "näckros(or)". (In Scandinavian folklore Näcken is a male water spirit who played enchanted songs on the violin, luring women and children to drown in lakes or streams...) - In general, I think botany is probably a very weak area of my knowledge of German :) In English (and even Swedish) it has improved a little bit in later years through blogging!

  2. I, too, love water lilies and have many plants in my garden pond but, despite the hot, sunny weather they are nowhere near flowering yet.

    1. Graham, in memory I associate them with late July rather than midsummer here! - but I haven't taken the time to "check" (by going through photos from earlier years, for example)...

  4. It was one of those rare days that was neither too hot nor too cold and yet sunny and still. :)
