Still snowy with blue skies and sunny today - and even colder than yesterday: Around -15°C (5°F) when I got up this morning (~9:30 am), still around -9°C (15°F) at noon when I went out for my walk. I decided to go in the opposite direction today for a change (towards the southern outskirts of the town). Here there is a less frequented park, sloping down towards one bend of the river. The walkways in that park aren't plowed in the winter, so it involved the "adventure" of walking in some almost untouched snow. The snow just now is not really all that deep though - and I had good boots on, plus my walking poles for extra safety.
Handling two walking poles, mittens + a camera is somewhat of an adventure it itself, though - involving a lot of stopping, shifting one of the poles to the other hand, taking off mitten, getting the camera out of the bag, taking photos (using one hand only, as the other is busy holding the two poles); then reversing the procedure: camera back in bag, mitten back on, grab both poles, walk a few more steps; one minute later (or less), stopping again, and repeat... etc, etc! - On a day like this, worth the trouble, though! ;-)

Is the river frozen? We have unusually hot weather today...up to almost 70 degree F
Goodness, you had a time of it. Why don't they get the snow off the park roads? The intense blue sky and the frosty wte snow make wonderful photos!
Barbara, no, the river is not frozen. It's not been all that cold until now. Actually I don't think I've ever seen the river completely frozen over, only here and there - there are too many places in between where the water moves too fast.
Ginny, I don't think they ever clear the paths in this particular park from snow. As it's on the outskirts, and not a place you need to pass through to get somewhere else, it's mostly those living nearby who go there, and if it snows in winter they leave it as a snowy playground where kids can play and go sledding/skiing down the slopes instead. I just went to check it out, and if it had seemed too difficult for me to go down there, I could easily have chosen not to!
Well done for managing all those amazing photos one-handed! There is something almost magical about the low sun through the trees.
At maximum +19ºC yesterday, we considered it quite a chilly day! After a cloudy start, the sky cleared and friends and I enjoyed our Christmas lunch with a ringside seat overlooking the sunny blue Mediterranean.
I think it is great they leave it as pristine snow, the beauty of waking up and seeing unmarked snow. the photos were and are well worth the stop start thing you had to do.. also great excercise. I smiled at my thoughts when I saw the footprints back and forth in the snow. I imagnged you walking in circles and back and forth managing your poles and camera and mittens. the low sun makes these extra special with those shadows. a trip to the country, close to home
It is beautiful, an enchanted Winter Wonderland - a bit Narnia-like in places, isn‘t it!
Grey and wet here again, so for a change, this will be a weekend at O.K.‘s without a Black Forest hike.
That sounds nice as well, CG - I guess "sunny blue" always makes it easier to feel in a festive mood, whether the blue is the Mediterranean or a winter sky up in the north! :)
Sandra, while I can't take credit for all of those footprints, you're not far wrong... :)
Meike, yes, it's been a very Narnia-like Christmas this year. Fortunately no sighting of the White Witch on my walks, though! ;)
