Snowdrops and Soap Operas

Strong winds blowing + a slightly overexerted knee has kept me mostly indoors over the past few days. I've been out for occasional short walks (as just keeping still is not good either) but I have kept close to home.

At home, I may have been following a few too many newscasts and discussions (on both radio and TV) about the latest developments in world politics - hoping to hear someone come up with explanations that make sense; but so far I can't say that's happened. (Not making sense in my brain, anyway.) It still feels more like watching a soap opera; but knowing that unfortunately this one is supposed to be "real".

"A soap opera is a television or radio program that airs in episodic series. This means that each episode continues telling a story, which, in turn, tells more of the last episode's story. A single story on a soap opera can be told for weeks, months, or sometimes even years."

I prefer the fictional kind. Those may sometimes be hard to make sense of as well; but there it doesn't matter, as one knows from start that it's all just pretend anyway...

  1. I know what you mean about the unreality of it all. I have tried not to watch but find myself reluctantly drawn irresistibly to the newscasts, only to feel immediately disheartened and sad.

    1. JC, I guess that goes for most of Europe just now - and probably even for about half of the USA.

  3. It sounds like you’ve had a bit of time to reflect, given the wind and your knee keeping you indoors. I completely understand how the news these days can feel like an endless soap opera. It's frustrating when nothing makes sense, and it feels like we're just watching a never-ending, dramatic episode unfold. Sometimes, the fictional soap operas seem much easier to handle, knowing that it’s all just pretend!

It's nice that you’ve been able to get some fresh air with short walks, though. Hopefully, your knee will be feeling better soon, and you’ll be able to get back outside more!

Hi, wishing you a great Wednesday: I just shared a new post: https://www.melodyjacob.com/

    1. Ginny, my impression from what I've heard is that there seems to be a lot of sudden changes within the US as well as in foreign politics.

  5. I hope your knee is soon back to normal, so that you can enjoy properly any spring sunshine that comes your way.
Last night I had a respite from the news, as I was meeting at the pub with two ladies from work. We did NOT talk politics, and it was a carefree evening spent in my happy bubble. When I'm home, I watch the local news and the main news on TV (very old-fashioned, I know). I have not subscribed to any news service on my mobile devices, as I can see with O.K. how time-consuming (and often annoying) it can be.

    1. Meike, the main news on TV and radio here, in Swedish, is my main source of info as well. For local news (Borås area) I have our local newspaper in its digital form. That also gives me access to digital news from some more Swedish newspapers, but that I only occasionally make use of.

  6. our soap opera, and you are so right, it is one, continues and I have had to severely limit my news reading and once shouted please just shut up at Bob because he watches the soap all day and shouts at the TV... this soap opera can affect the entire world and does

    1. Sandra, it certainly does, and the balance between trying to keep up vs the need to shut it all out from time to time is no doubt going to continue... I hope even Bob can find something else to watch in between.

  7. How cheerful the snowdrops look - in direct contrast to world events.
I'm sorry to hear about your knee and hope that it will soon take you on your walks around town again - we miss your photos!
I agree wholeheartedly with the comments about how disheartening things have become. The world order changes, but not for the better. It's almost impossible to know who, or what, to believe.

    1. Carol, one knee has a tendency (since many years) to play up a bit sometimes. Not too serious this time either, I think - just better not to challenge it too much for a while...

  8. I hope your knee recovers soon. It would be a shame to miss walking on sunny days.
The would-be World Ruler continues to astonish onlookers. He is destroying the USA.

    1. Janice, the weather has been mostly grey and windy this week anyway, so in that way as good a time as any to put my feet up for a while... I'm far from totally immobile, just better "think" a bit more than usual about how (and how much) I walk.
