Three little wolverines were recently born at Borås Zoo. It is rare for wolverines to breed in captivity. The last time it happened at our zoo was 26 years ago, which makes this a special event.
The wolverine (Gulo gulo) is the largest land-dwelling species of weasels. A fullgrown one weighs 10-25 kilos. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself. Nonetheless it’s categorized a vulnerable species, i.e. likely to become endangered unless the circumstances threatening its survival and reproduction improve.

Those claws already look quite sharp!
Sadly, no matter how ferocious and strong, they can't compete with the destruction of their habitat by humans.
The little baby wolverine looks quite happy, bred in captivity or not.

so cute, i notice they have on gloves. i have read that these guys can be aggressive, but this one looks sweet to me.
All babies look sweet, that's their job ;) I suspect those claws can already cause some serious injuries though!

Have to admit I thought it was a toy wolverine in the caption for the blog. The little guy is seriously cute but, as others have alluded to, is also still capable of causing plenty of harm. Living by the Kruger Park in South Africa as we do, we're all too familiar with that!
