Spectacles

CIMG7100-002

Today I went to pick up my new glasses.
All four pairs of them! :)

2013-10-004

No 1 are progressive glasses with progressive 75-25% colour. I wanted a pair of semi-dark glasses because of being bothered by bright light and PVD ‘floaters’. In summer I wear sunglasses on top of my regular ones outdoors, but in winter that tends to get too dark. I think these ‘compromise’ ones will work out as intended... Took a “testwalk” to the supermarket this afternoon and felt okay keeping them on indoors there as well. (The frames are copper-coloured around the eyes, with darker plastic sides.)

No 2, black frames with a bit of dark red on the sides = allround progressive glasses.

No 3 is the same kind of frame as No 2, but coppery brown (almost identical to my old glasses). These are my new TV glasses (with the progressive ones, subtexts get blurry when I lean back).

No 4 are my computer glasses (and, as the optician pointed out today, should also work well in the kitchen).

  2. I'm not really likely to forget as I will soon notice if I'm wearing the wrong ones! But yes, I'm also marking them with tiny labels on the inside of the frames; and the optician thoughtfully gave me four different spectacle cases.

  3. Hands down I like you in number four the best! The sunglass ones are very nice too. I tend to like frames that show off your face and where the focus is more on your face than the glasses. You did good!!!

    1. That's why I'm no fan of the recent revival of the big plastic frames, Ginny (as discussed in an earlier post). And was glad that there were still other alternatives to be found!

  4. These all look lovely. The labels are a good idea, especially if someone else hands them to you.

    1. Thanks Louise. And yes, one of the things I had in mind when labeling my glasses (including some old 'spare' ones) was the situation when my dad was taken ill and lost his former capacity to speak for himself. How were we to know which of his several pairs of old glasses were most helpful for him?

  5. Very smart. Not often one gets anything that looks good and is useful as well.

    1. Thanks Adrian. Glasses is one of the things I consider worth a bit of money as without them I'm truly "lost"...

  6. You have chosen very well, Monica, they all suit you! If I had to pick one favourite, that would be a hard decision.

    1. Thanks Meike, I'm glad you think so. It was hard enough to decide which one to choose for which purpose! But the choice would of course have been even harder if I had had to choose just one.

  8. I'm glad you didn't go for the huge plastic ones that are so fashionable at the moment. I very much like your choices - for you.

    1. Thanks Graham. I may have some nostalgic feelings about the 70's in other respects (like still liking much of the same music I did then). But the nostalgia does not include the spectacle frames! ;)

  9. Having to make a decision out of hundreds of styles of glasses, you did exceptionally well...I like them all, and they all suit you.
