Walking

September has passed into October, and we’re still having beautiful autumn weather here, even if it’s getting chillier. Some frosty nights and foggy/cloudy mornings, but still a lot of sunny afternoons. I’ve been out walking quite a lot, even if nowhere special. Either combined with various shopping etc; or just walking.

Here’s another “walker” I met the other day:
The Pinocchio sculpture by American artist Jim Dine,
with official title “Walking to Borås”.

See that little thing on top of his head? You might perhaps be tempted to take it for Jiminy Cricket…

…However…

It’s a (live) magpie (pica pica); which should give you an idea of the proportions of the sculpture… which is 9 m high.

    1. I'm not sure I'd really want every park to have a 9 m high statue, Adrian!

  4. How unusual! Is there any particular connection between your town and Pinocchio, or its creator?
Walking for "just walking" is wonderful, isn't it! I do like to have a goal for my walks, but I also very much love to just walk with nothing specific in mind other than enjoying the air and light, sounds and sight.

    1. There is (or was!) no particular connection between our town and Pinocchio, no. There was much discussion going on before he arrived... Basically the people responsible for outdoors public art wanted a really big sculpture in this particular spot, as a kind of landmark. And then there was someone willing to donate the money for it - but only if the artist was Jim Dine. And Jim Dine happened to be in a Pinocchio period. So Pinocchio it was. And NOW of course there IS a connection, based on the fact that we have the scultpure - haha...

  7. I love it! I thought your response to Librarian's comment was very apposite too. The idea that the town now has a connection is really quite droll.
