Skywatch Friday

… or rather Skywatch Saturday, as the photo was taken this morning…

DSC02919

I forget what this type of cloud is called, but I’m not sure I’ve seen it combined with sunrise before.

I've never even heard of a mackerel sky, so this post is both beautiful and informative, thanks to you and the reply from Sandra!

Quite dramatic effect, our skies in this pattern the other day were inkier colour - I'd never heard of a 'mackarel sky'. Thanks for sharing.

thank you for the lovely picture the word 'mackerel sky' - i never heard it before.
In Germany we call this kind of clouds 'Schäfchenwolken'
literally: lamb clouds :)

A bit more research tells me they're also called cirrocumulus or altocumulus clouds. Thanks for visiting!

Vielen Dank, Mo - ich kenne die Wörter Schaf und Wolke; aber wenn es kommt zu verschiedenen Arten von Wolken... Nicht eben sicher was sie auf Schwedisch heissen! ;)
