This week they've been cutting reeds in the river. The first two photos are from last Sunday, when the reeds were still there (and lots of them, in some places). The last two are from Tuesday afternoon, when I noticed several piles of cut reeds along the shores - and the surface of river itself looking unusually "clean" for the time of year.
Reminds me that I should make an appointment with my hairdresser to tidy myself up a bit too! ;-)
It does look kind of charming. Will they be taking the piles away?
ReplyDeleteGinny, I certainly hope so! :-) (I assume they'll collect them when they're done with the job all the way along the river through town)
DeleteIt's good they do this, we have problems with reeds and mangroves here, would be good if they were cut back too.
ReplyDeleteAmy, I'm not sure how often they do it here but it clearly made a difference this time.
DeleteThat the reed cutting and piling reminded you of booking an appointment with your hairdresser made me smile 😊
ReplyDeleteMeike, I tend to never get round to it until it starts to really bother me... ;-)
Deleteit really enhanced the river view a lot! so beautiful...
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra. I love walking along the water; but you already know that.
DeleteThe river will certainly look better with all those reeds removed. Can the reeds be used for anything - or are they just disposed of?
ReplyDeleteWe have a similar problem with bamboo here, and it's very invasive, although not in the water, but clogs up the old dried up river beds which act as drainage when we have monsoon-like storms.
CG, I don't know, but if nothing else I guess they can burn them with other various kinds of refuse here that goes to producing energy for distance heating.
DeleteThat made me smile!
ReplyDeleteGraham, 'hold on to your sense of humour' is a motto as good as any... ;-)
