ABC Wednesday: M for Moya, and Music

image

Moya (Máire) Brennan (born 4 August 1952), is an Irish folk singer, songwriter and harpist. She began her career in the family band Clannad in 1970. Her first solo album was released in 1992, and since then she has produced several more. (I am the happy owner of six of them from between 1998-2008.)

Moya’s sister Enya (born 1961) also made a successful solo career.

Moya’s music is usually classified as Celtic, and sometimes as New Age - many of her lyrics however are clearly Christian.

Listen to and watch Moya at YouTube, singing Tara from the album Two Horizons:

  2. I have her C.D.'s! And probably all of Clannad, and several of Enya!! I LOVE Celtic music, and love watching the Riverdance series, too. I have tons of Celtic music and traditional English like Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention. Who did I see when I opened the morning paper but a big photo of Paul Simon!!! They wrote in depth about his new album, calling it one of his best ever...a sweetness and light in his voice that has not diminished over the years....love in many different forms...a feast of words...a magnificent addition to his canon that may signal a brand new epoch!

  5. I've just counted: 7 Enya and 4 Clannad in my collection but I'd never heard of Moya even though she she appears on some of the Clannad albums.

  7. i guess i am odd man out since i have never heard of her, the music is beautiful. i do love riverdance that Ginny mentioned but that is the only celtic music i have heard except for on public TV once in a while. i dont buy music at all. i was raised in a home with no music in it, and the music i know is all the old hymns we sung in church.
