Friday Fence

FF120210-CIMG7077-1

Traditional farm style wooden fence, but here along a town street (not so common!)

  1. Interesting. Nothing like the "traditional" fences where I live. I suppose it has something to do with the snowfall. I'll bet they make a lovely pattern on a sunny day.

  4. That is certainly not a type of fence I have seen before - interesting but to my eyes a bit strange. I suspect it is very effective on farmland as the angle of the cross-members would be very off-putting to anything thinking of jumping it.

  5. I like it...different to anything I have seen. Also like the house...those windows on the ground level are wonderful.

  8. I wonder why the uprights are so much higher than they need to be.

  10. Looks like the fence came first and then town second. You do wonder why the fence was left, don't you. I'm sure the slant of the fence is for some practical reason but it turned out to be rather architectural.

  11. I did not quite realize how untraditional this type of fence would seem to some, as it is common here, in the countryside.

Scriptor, you have the right idea, this type of fence was traditionally used to fence off animals rather than marking property boundaries.

Access to wood was never a problem in Scandinavia and the trees generally came from the owners' own forests in the process of thinning them out.
