This afternoon I have been unpacking a delivery of groceries.
My supermarket started their online ordering & home delivery service about a year ago. I’ve been making use of it regularly ever since (about every 2nd week); and because of my neck/shoulder problems (and not having a car), it’s literally been a huge weight off my shoulders. Still feels like Christmas Eve every time!
And not least on a day like today, with another full-blown storm (by name of Helga) raging outside (the third storm in a month to have been considered worthy of a Name)…
The two bowls in the picture both belonged to my mum. The little striped one I remember from childhood as being used for home-made Christmas candy… Fudge and toffee is a no-no for me these days, though, so I don’t make any. (I allow myself a piece of dark chocolate now and then, but otherwise I try to stick to fruit…)
What a great idea and helpful to have groceries delivered. I think it would feel like Christmas. You mum's bowls are precious. You know I still make my mom's English Toffee every Christmas. It's been passed down from great grandma, and now this year I will teach my adult daughters so the tradition can continue when I'm gone.
ReplyDeleteI do love your little angel calendar. Merry December and Christmas.
Wanda, home made toffee at Christmas was always special. But as no younger generation now in my family, I'm content with filling the bowl with other things now :)
DeleteI love fruit as well and always have it in bowls on the table and kitchen counter so that I can pick at it. Although I will say, seasonal candy is delicious as well! :D

Mersad, I agree - but I'm afraid I don't have character enough to have bowls full of candy standing around :)
DeleteI gets increasingly harder here as well to have them around. :)
DeleteThey're starting home delivery of groceries here too and I'm very interested in using the service, I hate grocery shopping.
ReplyDeleteThen you should definitely give it a try, Janet! :) I still like going to the shops myself every now and then in between - to keep myself orientated, and because some things one might want to look at before buying - but I always try to get the heavy and bulky stuff in my home delieveries now.
DeleteAdmittedly, I eat much more chocolate than fresh fruit, but I do love fruit and thankfully don't have problems in carrying home from the shops what I need for my (mostly) single household. Still, the idea to have things delivered is very appealing, especially when I am hosting a party - drinks are the heaviest stuff, and I can hardly carry more than 4 or 5 bottles of champagne and other drinks in one go. I can usually organize a trip to the shop by car (with RJ or my sister), but I've learned yesterday that one of the big supermarkets in town now offer home delivery. Must look into that before my next party!
ReplyDeleteHaving seen your fashion photos it's hard to believe your diet consists mostly of chocolate, Meike :)
Deletewhat a good thing for your shoulders, i can imagine trying to walk and get food home from the store. all really good looking fruit and now we know you will not starve while waiting out the storm. that is strange having 3 named storms so close together. the weather and the people in our world have gone stark raving mad.
ReplyDeleteStormy & rainy today as well and I've not set foot outside all day. I'm certainly very thankful to be well stocked up with food and to know I don't have to worry about that.
DeleteYou've made me think about the time next year when I have my knee replaced. I shall have to look it up. Apparently the store here that does on-line ordering has 11 vans working well into the evening for a population of about around 20,000 people.
ReplyDeleteGraham, if they deliver all over the island I can imagine it being helpful for quite a few people not living in the close vicinity of Stornoway - even if they have cars of their own. And even if one normally manages one's own shopping, it may come in handy now and again.
