Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly

Small Tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae)

Got my first butterfly close-ups for the season yesterday. This one was enjoying its flower so much that it didn't mind me bending over it with my phone to snap photos! I'm not sure of the name of the flower, but I think it may be one of those also called "butterfly bush"!

Wow, you haven't posted one of these in a long time. The colors are marvelous, and so is the detail on the butterfly.

It's a budleia, Sommerflieder in German, and indeed called butterfly bush. My mother-in-law has several in her garden, and they are almost always full of butterflies :-)

Yes, it's a buddleia. I have two in the garden, planted especially to attract butterflies, not that we've seen many.
Lovely photos, the colours are clear and quite intense. Are you going to play around with the images?

Ginny, except for a few winter survivors in early spring, it's not until late summer that we see more of them about.
