Hey, you… down there… Behave yourself!
On my visit to the zoo it was undoubtedly the elephants and the giraffes who put up the best “show” to entertain the spectators. A whole group of us stood for a long time watching the majestic giraffe following the two young elephants around… Not easy to tell exactly what was going on! The most popular theory was that the elephants were up to mischief and the giraffe got annoyed and wanted to educate them in proper behaviour and make it absolutely clear who is King of the Savannah! As someone in the human crowd pointed out, even the big elephants seemed kind of intimidated by the giraffe; they did not interfere.
Watch the videos and tell me what you think. Who is teasing whom here? Is the giraffe acting bully or baby sitter? Or just wanting to play?
Looks to me like it is a herder giraffe, like the sheep dogs that herd sheep, This giraffe herds Elephants. Fun E post and videos.
ReplyDeleteInitially, I think the tall fellow just wanted to be left alone!

that beautiful giraffe towers over the elephants, they are all so beautiful and adorable
ReplyDeleteElephants and giraffes are popular animals because they ARE entertaining. :) Thanks for sharing your photos!
ReplyDeleteHello.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post!
In the first video, I definitely think the smaller of the elephants was teasing the giraffe too much...liked when he backed up into the giraffe. It also looked like the giraffe just wanted to play...a little.
Thanks for sharing.

Well, it looks to me like the elephant kids are wanting to play, and they do not know their place in the order of things yet! Great video!!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely entertaining.
ReplyDeleteEpcot's Spaceship Earth, please come and see.
I really can't decide what was happening but I'm inclined to think that the giraffe decided that enough was enough. The problem is that we don't know how the incident started.
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me as if the giraffe just wants to join in the game!
ReplyDeleteI can see that elephants are playing with their clan members but with giraffe its a different story!

I don't know if you're familiar with Gerald Durrell, an English author, naturalist and zoo keeper. He wrote a number of books about his work with establishing zoos and one about his family "My Family and Other Animals" that was made into a movie. Very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteThe baby elephant first instigated the poor Giraffe and then the Giraffe takes over and hounds the lot away!! What a fun post and very enjoyable!!
