August has been wet and rather warm – perfect for fungi. I found this fine specimen of fly agaric in the woods near the lake outside town a couple of weeks ago. The fly agaric or Amanita muscaria is known as poisonous and having hallucinogenic properties.
For ABC Wednesday
a rather festive fungus

that is just about the coolest toad stool ever, the colors and it looks different than any I have ever seen. i agree with Roger, it is festive and maybe it could dance with my ballerina
ReplyDeleteOh my word!!!! I have never seen anything like this! At first I thought it was some kind of man made table! I would have taken a hundred pictures!! It even looks hallucinogenic!
ReplyDeleteGosh, those are amazing colours. What a wonderful photograph.
ReplyDeleteI used to go out in the woods mushroom picking with my great-grandmother...I would never do it now because I would have no idea what was hallucinogenic...
ReplyDeleteFungi are so much Fun!
ReplyDelete... but maybe not the poisonous ones - we have one here called the Death Cap - looks similar to the edible ones, but you get sick ... then you feel better so you stop worrying, then you get sick again and die ... I think what you die from is the liver damage that it causes. Taking photos of the ones you find, and eating the ones you buy in the shop, is far safer!
very red, very poisonous. My grand dad told us, if colorful, stay clear.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I can't ever recall seeing such a perfect specimen.
