Slip Slidin’ Away into the New Year

The idiom “a walk in the park” in English is supposed to mean something is easy. You should think twice before you use it in that sense in Sweden in the winter!

We’ve been going back and forth between snowstorms and rain and ice this past week. Yesterday the sun came out for a visit, but a cold clear sky also meant that the slush and rain from the previous days froze to knobbly layers of ice on walkpaths like these.

That already seems like a long time ago, though. Since then the sun has gone back into hiding, and we’ve had another round of snow, followed by slush and rain.

I hope it freezes up for you or thaws. Nothing worse than damp cold.
Beautiful light in the park.

it looks beautiful but I know it is not a walk in the park to walk on it. and winter has just begun for you.... stay safe and warm, and be careful if you have to go out.

I have always loved this song. I hope you took this from a window and were not actually out in it!

I have a feeling I've made use of that song before in similar context... But no, these photos were not taken from any window. I was out for quite a long walk yesterday (about 1 hr 15 min). Not all of it as slippery as that bit through the park; but the tedious thing about winter walks is that you can never be sure... you have to keep staring at your feet with every step.

I want to experience a real winter. Just once in my life. Slush and slip and all.

...and yes, I love that song too. In fact, it's time I got the S&G out for a revisit.

dear DawnTreader,
you know here in Germany at the end of the year we say "Guten Rutsch" to people whom we don't expect to meet again before new year. in english that might be "Slip well".
I hope you don't slip in a way that it will hurt you.
thank you for the song of Paul Simon - we used to play that on the radio show in the last minutes of the old year, before the countdown to midnight.
Alles Gute, Licht und Liebe für dich
mo jour

My husband's nephew lives in Sweden. He met a gal from Sweden years ago in CA and fell in love... He's lived in Sweden for years.. He fell out of love with the gal...but fell in love with Sweden and has never left...

Your snow pictures are truly beautiful...cold, but beautiful.

Your photos are beautiful Monica even if the footpath isn't so good to walk on.

Not that cold over here, thankfully, but clear and sunny for the past two or three days. I think we had a full moon last night, and I attempted to take pictures; they are still in the camera so I don't know yet whether they have turned out well.
