Any books you’re hoping to get for the holidays this year? How about giving? Are you giving any good ones?
As usual the questions come from Deb at Booking Through Thursday.
Judging by the size of the parcels I’ve received by mail, no books. And I did not buy any to give away either this Christmas. But I did buy some for myself! One I even wrapped to put under my tree and have actually managed to forget the title even if I do still remember the author (a Swedish pastor/author, to my knowledge not translated into English).
I also bought the complete works of Tomas Tranströmer, the Swedish poet who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 2011. That book I did not wrap, but I haven’t had much time to look in it yet, except for the poem quoted here (recent blog post).
Over the past week or two I’ve been reading, and am still reading, The Distant Hours by Kate Morton, a novel which I’m thoroughly enjoying. 3/4 into it I’m still feeling that on the one hand I want to just keep reading to find out about the mysteries involved; on the other hand I want it to last because I so much like reading it. Which makes it just about perfect just now. (Because I have not had all that much time for reading. But whenever I’ve had the time, I’ve known I have a good book to return to!)
Next, I might be picking up either the one waiting under the tree, or Paolo Coelho’s The Pilgrimage, or a Swedish novel about a 100-year-old who climbed out of the window and disappeared (that’s the title! – I don’t think the book has been translated).
“Christmas Corner” in my living room

thanks for sharing your Christmas corner, it helps me to picture your life when we are 'talking'. here in the USA the Kindle reader is big. how about there with you? reading E-books. they are really big here, no more buying books and storing them, but buying e-books.
I give books as Christmas presents but seldomly get them as a present, but that's ok I always have a stack to read.
I've enjoyed reading Kate Morton's books very much.
Love your Christmas corner.
Sandra, I blogged about this back in November: E-volution We're a bit behind you with the e-books because Sweden is still having difficulties settling on the best reader(s) for our language and literature.
Janet, I came by Kate Norton's book by chance, in our bookshop, which only has a small selection of English books. Had never heard of her before so it was one of those rare occasions when I just bought the book by the cover. I don't think she's been translated into Swedish (yet).
Loved seeing your Christmas corner, have a happy holiday!

Your room is beautiful!!!! I love the little tree and especially the guitar on the wall. I wish I could decorate like this. And even the elves are booking with us today! I am caught up now, I love your globe plate (I'm going to Amazon to try and find one and buy it) your flowers and winter solstice pictures are lovely, as well. Now to the books, yes and YES!!! Here's what I have gotten this month, I have been a booking NUT!!! "Visions Of Earth", "Trees", "Remarkable Trees Of Virginia" "Wonders Of Life", "Send In The Idiots", "In The Company Of Crows And Ravens", "The Tiger's Wife", "90 Minutes In Heaven". Now aren't you sorry you asked, ha ha!!
Ginny, I think I'd get exhausted after half an hour going shopping with you ;) ... Contrary to how it might seem from all my "window shopping" this month, I don't really buy much!
Not anticipating any books either for Christmas, which I find is a little sad, because I would always appreciate a book. Although, the last book my sister bought me, The Blind Assassin, I haven't read yet and its been on my shelves for over 10 years.
Here is my BTT.
since I started blogging, I don't read many books. I struggle to remember what I wrote in my own book.
Merry Christmas.
trekking your amazing blog! keep blogging! happy holidays!
cheers!
...TREK...
I like to see the corner of your room. I don't recall seeing the picture with the moon before. Nor do I recall seeing your guitar or knowing that you played one.
