Early this morning I was woken up early by a noise I have not heard for a while: The sound of the snow-plough.
I did not go out until mid-day but then all roads and pavements were still very icy and slippery. Snow may make the world look brighter, but it really does cause serious problems. And somehow no one ever seems to be prepared for the first snow and ice, no matter whether it comes early or late in the season, or if the weather forecasts have been predicting it for days. My morning paper today reported 13 local road accidents from yesterday, pointing out that these were only a selection of many more similar incidents.
I had to settle for a shorter walk than I had intended. Here are some photos from a footbridge over the railway near where I live.
Walking east about 1 km from here takes me to a supermarket. I wonder if I’ll see that place again before spring! (that’s the pessimist in me speaking…)
Direction north leads towards the town centre. Yeah, right. Piece of cake on a fine day with ice free streets. Today, I don’t think so!
Walking west to the bus stop would be a better alternative if I really needed to. But since I don’t really…
… I think I’ll just turn around and head home again and bake my own cakes…

Gosh, you were very brave to go out at ALL! I would have been too afraid! Do you have those cleat things you can pull over your shoes or boots? My favorite is the next to lat picture, it is all a lovely variety of the scenes around your area. I LOVE the twisted Hazel post below!!! And the beautiful reflection you got. I have never seen anything like it. I wonder if it is the type they make Witch Hazel from?
I love the first picture. It's a bit slippery here.
i know it is hard to drive/walk on but it really is most beautiful. these are super photos of it, i feel like i was on the short walk with you. the colors are so pretty, pale blue and mystical looking. I can say all this because i am not there walking in it.
Gosh that's a week ago (from this comment). It looks lovely from the other side of the world!
